Official Home of the Hybrid Halter® - Handmade Excellence + Training Innovation

Teach your foal to lead from pressure and reduce the risk of flip over.

Also useful as soft driving lines for ground driving and for long distance work toward liberty.

The single 22-Foot soft line features an eyelet on one end for convenient looping and a leather popper on the opposite end. The line is long enough to fashion a chest harness from by running it over the foal's back and between its front legs, then through the loop of the halter. Enough length to fashion a butt rope and thin enough to thread through the ring of a foal halter. More suitable to a newborn foal's size than a bulky lead rope and allows for a greater range of control. Teaching the foal to lead first from applied pressure from a body rope helps reduce the risk of flip over that going direct to halter leading can trigger.

The general training progression using the rope with foals is:

  • As a butt rope
  • Around shoulders to teach yielding from gentle pressure
  • Around girth and between front legs
  • Around girth and between front legs and through chin ring
  • Optional step: tied in a Bohlin knot around the neck (must be a non-slip knot!)
  • Finally, direct to a normal leading rope on the chin, which can be our normal lead ropes or this foal rope with a scissor snap attached

For ground driving and liberty:

  • Choose the scissor snap/set of 2 option - this will allow you attach your lines either to a bit or to your Hybrid Halter.
  • Works with any surcingle, through the stirrups, etc
  • As these are lightweight, they will not collect tons of dirt or get tiring in your hands
  • By the time you have progressed to ground driving, your horse should have been prepared to yield politely off pressure, so the fine diameter of the lines will serve as a good reminder to be skilled with your hands
  • For progressing with liberty, a single line attached to a scissor snap can act as a a little honesty check and insurance policy.
